After spending the better part of last week in Memphis for the C-USA Basketball Tournament, InsideKnights.com was able to get a great look at all 12 C-USA teams and we have a few thoughts on how next year may play out for the Knights. Here’s part one of what is likely the very first preview of the 2009-10 season.   Full Story

Now that the Conference USA regular season is officially over, it’s time for us to announce our all-C-USA teams. To no one’s surprise, the Most Outstanding Player Award goes to UCF’s dynamic shooting guard, Jermaine Taylor, who led the conference in scoring with a 26.6 ppg. average, setting a new C-USA record.   Full Story

Wednesday was another busy night of hoops in C-USA, as 10 of the 12 teams were in action. Memphis and Marshall continue to streak, as does UCF in the other direction, and SMU got a rare win on Senior night.    Full Story

It was a busy weekend in the world of C-USA hoops, and unlike the weekday games, there were no real surprises. Memphis continues to roll, UAB bounces back from their mid-week date with Memphis, UCF continues to slump, and Tulsa, Houston, and Tulane take care of business.   Full Story

Despite 28 points from senior guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla.), the UCF men’s basketball team was unable to top Marshall Saturday, falling 67-62 at the Cam Henderson Center. The Knights had the chance to tie the Conference USA game at 65 with five seconds remaining, but Taylor’s 3-pointer went wide.    Full Story

The Memphis Tigers continue to flex their muscles, as they stay perfect in conference and are the hottest team in the nation with 19 consecutive wins. Rice and Marshall both recorded their first conference road victories of the season, as Rice overcame a record-setting performance by the great Jermaine Taylor. Houston and SMU were game opponents, but couldn’t seal the deal on the road.    Full Story

All 12 teams were in action Saturday which made for some exciting C-USA hoops action. Memphis was challenged, but survived, and UAB was especially impressive at home.   Full Story

NEW ORLEANS - Marshall saw Tulane just two weeks ago, when the Herd rallied to tie a game at the Henderson Center over the Green Wave and win in overtime, 89-86. This afternoon at ancient Fogelman Arena, in front of about 150 Tulane fans (listed attn: 1,843, not even close), TU played at its place and topped a poor-shooting Herd, 57-51. MU is now 12-15, 4-8 in Conference USA.   Full Story

HUNTINGTON - Marshall played like the team that had won four in a row, which Houston had done to move into second in Conference USA men's basketball's standings. The Herd forced the Cougars into 11 turnovers, matched them with 30 rebounds and shot nearly 59 percent from the floor. The Thundering Herd took down a team MU had never beat, 88-83, with just eight players dressed against UH Wednesday.   Full Story

Another week has gone by in the C-USA and what else is new, Memphis is undefeated. John Calipari’s Tigers are playing stifling defense and some close early season contests have turned into blowouts. Memphis has now won 52 straight C-USA games, and there’s no end to their dominance in sight.   Full Story

Marshall had a sub-par shooting night, hitting just 35 percent from floor and 11-of-20 at the line. Meanwhile, UTEP was hitting 28-of-33 from the stripe, including a perfect 20-of-20 for the Miners Stefan Jackson on his way to 35 points. But the Herd rallied throughout the half, falling 13 behind early and down ten with 3:30 to go. MU cut it to one with a minute left but UTEP held on, 74-67.   Full Story

Head coaches Ken French of Rio Grande and Donnie Jones of Marshall had no idea who Marshall was going to play in the game at Huntington. Marshall had two players who left the team, plus Tyler Wilkerson is out for the year. Dago Pena is going to have surgery, and Tay Spann (back) and Shaq Johnson (ankle) were nursing injuries. Never fear, as The Herd won, 92-59, playing only eight players...   Full Story

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times," were words by the famous British author Charles Dickens. But Dickens, who wrote those words in "A Tale of Two Cities," never knew about overtime. The Thundering Herd trailed by as much as 15 points in the first half before out-scoring Tulane 50-37 in the second to send the game to an extra five minutes and the Herd prevailed in OT, 89-86.   Full Story

Marshall's aim to shut down Tulsa's 7-foot junior, Jerome Jordan, to have a chance to break a losing streak sitting at three straight and five of the last six. Marshall did that, holding the TU center to just eight points and five rebounds (in front of four or five NBA scouts at court side). MU even out-rebounded Tulsa, but you don't get points for boards, and Marshall shot awful in a 73-57 loss.   Full Story

40 minutes wasn't enough for Marshall and UAB at the Henderson Center on Saturday night. Tied at 69-69 at the end of regulation when Damier Pitts missed a three (part of an 0-of-12 night) UAB would turn three Marshall turnovers into six points and pull away for a 75-73 win. But it wasn't completely over until Markel Humphrey had a shot blocked with :04.5 left and missed a three at the buzzer.   Full Story

The weather in Huntington was awful for Herd fans, as an estimated 200,000 in the Tri-State were without power due to a severe winter storm dumping sleet and ice on top of 5-6 inches of snow. While the Herd was as hot as the weather in Hattiesburg, Miss. in the first half, the second half was so cold, shooting-wise, that Southern Miss got out to a big lead and stole a 84-79 win at home from MU.   Full Story

Marshall started a two-game road trip, and the sixth road game in a month, in Orlando, Fla. at UCF Arena, hoping to build off the momentum of the SMU win on Wednesday. But Sunday, it was the Knights who made most of the shots, long and short, in a 87-69 win over the Herd. Marshall is just 1-9 away from Huntington, 1-4 in true road games and 0-4 against teams on neutral courts.   Full Story

Marshall held its breath when SMU's Derek Williams pushed up a short jumper with just four seconds in a 50-50 game. MU's Markel Humphrey skied to take the rebound from a pair of Mustangs, and looked up court with just two seconds to play. He flipped the ball towards the basket nearly 75-feet away as time ticked off and the 3/4-court shot banked off the glass and into the basket for a 53-50 win.   Full Story

Marshall flew to Oklahoma with high hopes of pulling an upset on a team that was picked to challenge Memphis for the Conference USA crown. But Tulsa had let the Tigers steal a win on Tuesday when Antonio Anderson went coast-to-coast with just 4.5 on the clock to pull out the win. Marshall had its own hangover to deal with, now 3-8 in last 11 games after the WVU game, including a 69-50 loss to TU.   Full Story

"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, I am the great and powerful OZ," said the not so powerful wizard in the movie of the same name. Likewise, pay no attention to the final score of West Virginia's men beating Marshall, 87-76, because it really wasn't that close. Marshall shot just 54 percent from the free throw line, committed 29 fouls and allowed WVU to shoot 53 percent in the win.   Full Story
