Homecoming weekend means visitors all over Marshall’s campus. For the most part it means the return of alumni and former players as they come back to their alma mater to see their friends and teammates from years past. It also means it is yet another opportunity for the Herd coaching staff to bring in potential prospects to visit.

Marshall Inks 1 for 1 with ACC School

Marshall Athletic Director Mike Hamrick announced today that the Thundering Herd Football program had signed a home and home contract with the University of Pittsburgh. The two game set will add to future Marshall schedules and shows that the Thundering Herd intends to pick up the quality in regards to out of conference scheduling.

Two weeks ago, Marshall hosted the Ohio Bobcats at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. In addition to hosting the contest, Marshall also hosted an official visit from a big offensive lineman from Florida. This lineman visited, and spent the weekend with two other current Marshall commits who were on campus for unofficial visits.

The Marshall Thundering Herd enters their first bye week with four wins and no losses. Throughout the first four games the Herd has scored over 40 points per game in each contest. The offense has been efficient and the defense has been very effective. The defense has only allowed six first half points total throughout the season.

Logan Grieser is a hulking offensive lineman from Arlington High School, who committed to the Marshall Thundering Herd coaching staff back in June. He recently made another visit to the Huntington, West Virginia campus. Grieser was joined by fellow offensive lineman Alex Locklear, who has committed to the Herd, and Fredrick Johnson who also holds an offer from the Marshall staff.

The 2014 Edition of the Marshall Thundering Herd entered the season with more expectations than any Marshall football squad since 1999. The schedule, due to Louisville buying out of a scheduled trip to Huntington, was one of the multitude of reasons the Herd was predicted to go undefeated.

Marshall enters the final stage of the first quarter of the season tomorrow afternoon on the road against the Akron Zips. The Zips led by Tommy Bowden come into the game with a 1 – 1 record. The Zips beat Howard and lost to Penn State. Marshall enters the game undefeated with wins over Miami of Ohio, Rhode Island and Ohio.

Ten Months ago, Marshall fans, staff, and players assumed that their next home game would be just one week later for the CUSA championship against Rice. However, due to some number crunching, and rules interpretations that still to this day leave people scratching their heads, that did not happen. Marshall finally got to play that next home game this past Saturday against Rhode Island.

Marshall stormed out to an early 28 to 3 halftime lead behind an excellent first half performance from Rakeem Cato, and Devon Johnson. Miami of Ohio came out at halftime with 17 points to pull to within eight, before the Herd scored to set the final score at 42 to 27.
