Presumptive GOP Presidential nominee Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) will visit Marshall University Wednesday morning. McCain will make a brief stop to speak to the Marshall Thundering Herd football team, coaches and players, at the Joan C. Edwards Stadium. The meeting will be closed to the public and covered by pool reporters including MetroNews for ESPN 930-AM.

The McCain for President Campaign says the visit will not be open to the public because of logistics and concerns about securing a large facility like the football stadium. McCain will board his campaign bus and head to Jackson, Ohio for a scheduled appearance after the MU visit. Wednesday's stop will mark the third time McCain has been in the Mountain State this year.

McCain is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and was a Navy aviator for 22-years. He was shot down twice in Vietnam, and the second time cost McCain 5.5 years of his life in a prisoner of war camp, the "Hanoi Hilton."

He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982, one year after retiring from the U.S. Navy. He earned his Senate seat in 1986 and has continued to serve through this year's presidential run. McCain has seven children and four grandchildren and lives in Phoenix.

West Virginia MetroNews will be part of the pool reporters who will be allowed to cover the stop at the Marshall stadium. MetroNews will feed their story to 930-AM and other affiliates, and cuts from the McCain stop to visit the Herd football team will be heard throughout the day, including the Insider Sportsline at 4 p.m., live from Esquire Golf Club, and the Insider Statewide at 5 p.m., also heard on ESPN 1490-AM in Charleston.
