Cornerback Set to Visit
More on the visitor list later, however, yesterday I caught up with one of the prospects who plans to visit the Marshall campus this upcoming weekend.
Lightning fast, two star cornerback Stephon Brown plans to make his official visit this weekend. Brown is a senior defensive back from Kissimmee, Florida via Osceola High School. Brown stands 5’11” tall and weighs in at 170 pounds. He has been clocked at 4.38 in the forty. He anticipates staying at the cornerback position at the next level.
Currently, Brown has eighteen offers from schools across the country. In addition to his offer from Marshall, he also has offers from Florida Atlantic, Iowa State, Hawaii, Bowling Green, Western Kentucky, Southern Mississippi and North Carolina State. Although he holds an offer from the Wolfpack, Brown currently lists his top five as Marshall, Iowa State, Florida Atlantic , Hawaii, and South Florida.
Brown’s lead recruiter from Marshall is defensive line coach Sean Cronin. Cronin has made a major impact for the Herd in regards to recruiting the state of Florida.
Brown will arrive in Huntington this Saturday Morning and staying until Sunday. He will arrive on Saturday due to having a football game on Friday night against Lake Mary High School.
Brown said that he season is going great so far, he said, “I feel very confident about our team this year. We have a lot of talent on both sides of the football. We won our first game vs Freedom, 48 to 7. We got to stay focused on one game at a time and reach our goal of winning a state championship.”
Currently Marshall has just one commitment from a defensive back. That commitment is Roosevelt Lawrence from Alonso, High School. Marshall will lose one starting defensive back in Darryl Roberts. Marshall also has a junior and a sophomore on the two deep in Keith Baxter and Corey Tindal.
Doc Holliday realizes the change in the game of football in that most defenses run at least five defensive backs/safeties on the field at all times. This is one position where depth will be crucial.
Stay tuned to Herdhaven.com as we keep you updated on the other visitors as the week plays out.
