White Weighs Options

Marshall has just concluded its most successful gridiron football season in recent memory. With a win in the Military Bowl, the Herd would end the season with double digit wins for the first time since Byron Leftwich assisted in the Herd accomplishing that feat all the way back in 2002. One of the strengths of this team has been its play at the defensive back position.

Marshall will lose two defensive backs to graduation, and a starting safety will be a senior next season. In addition, three of the returners in the secondary have battled injuries throughout their careers, Darryl Roberts, Keith Baxter, and A.J. Leggett. It should come as no surprise that the Herd staff is looking into the JUCO ranks to get immediate help at the spot.

Enter Itawamba defensive back Darius White. White visited the Herd way back in early October and has been on the Herd's radar ever since. Currently, White is an unranked, and unrated prospect at the JUCO level but multiple schools have now jumped into the fray in order to try and recruit his services into their program.

White is a 6'0", 175 pound defensive back capable of playing either corner or safety. Coach Alex Mirabel is the lead recruiter for the Herd in their pursuit of White. White visited the Marshall campus back in October and came away very impressed. "I really liked the coaches and all the players, I really enjoyed my visit," White told Herdhaven.com. White has since visited BCS schools Kansas State and Texas Tech, proving that the lack of a ranking does not mean he would not make an immediate impact wherever he happens to land.

White is just a football player. The way he plays the game with passion, it can be seen that he simply loves the game and everything about it. I asked him what his favorite part about the game of football was and he said, "I just love football, and I really love to compete. I love everything about it, everything that comes with it, both the good and the bad. I love it."

White currently lists his favorites, "in no particular order," as Kansas State, Cal, Northern Illinois, Bowling Green, Utah State, Middle Tennessee State, and Marshall.

White expects to make his announcement on either December 16th or December 18th. He could be a mid year enrollee at the school he chooses.
