Former Marshall LB Passes Away
A few years back, after his career was done, a bunch of Marshall fans got together on a weekday afternoon to play flag football at Ritter Park. It was during the first season in CUSA, and on the same day the Herd played Southern Miss. Right there playing middle linebacker was Rembert, laughing and playing with guys far less athletic superior than he was.
I spoke earlier with former Marshall quarterback Jimmy Skinner who was stunned by the news. He had nothing but great things to say about his former teammate. He recalled back to when he came here as a freshman and he was scared, and lost, and couldn't even find his way around camp. He said that Rembert was always the first one to step up and show them around, get them into meetings, help them find their equipment. No matter what was needed, Rembert stepped up to help.
In 2003, Rembert was named to the Butkus Watch List. He was a stalwart at linebacker for the Herd for many years. His interception late in the fourth quarter sealed a 26 to 21 win for Marshall in the first ever meeting with UCF.
JT passed away today, leaving many Herd fans reflecting back on a guy that was not only a great player, but a great person.
JT Rembert, always a true, Son of Marshall.
