Defensive End Offer

Defensive End Offer

Defensive End has been a great position in the history of Marshall University. In the past, players such as BJ Cohen and Paul Toviessi stormed off the end to sack quarterbacks at incredible rates. In the more recent future, the late Jonathan Goddard and now Vinny Curry carried on those traditions, and took them into the NFL.

Those are not the only defensive ends to star at Marshall, just some of the more recognized names. Coming into this season, the Herd expects big things out of Juniors Jeremiah Taylor and Alex Bazzie, and sophomore's Ra'Shawde Myers and Malcolm Strong. Income freshman Marcus Gilchrist, Joe Massaquoi, and Steve Dillon should also come into play. Dillon is a former USC recruit who had to set out last season due to being a non qualifier. Dillon will most likely play inside at defensive tackle, but could move outside.

With all of the talent the Herd has had in the past, and on the roster now, most Herd fans are trained to take a good look at any new defensive ends that receive offers. That holds true with a defensive end from Lake Worth High School in Lake Worth Florida. Standing at 6'3.5" and weighing 260 pounds, it is no wonder that 2013 prospect James Looney is being sought after by Doc Holliday and his staff. A quick google search of his name brings up a picture of him making a solo tackle without even having a helmet on.

Currently Looney holds offers from five schools. Those schools are Wake Forest, Minnesota, University of South Florida and Bowling Green.

Added to that list is Marshall. The Herd offered some time ago, and does have the interest of Looney. Looney's lead recruiter at Marshall, like most of the Florida talent is Jajuan Seider, or as Looney refers to him as, "Coach Jajuan."

Looney anticipates playing defensive end in college, he also lines up on the offensive line at Lake Worth High. However he says, "I will play whatever they want me to."

It is early in the process, but Looney appears to be one worth watching. The recent departure of Trevor Black, and the fact that Taylor and Bazzie are both upper classmen, should make the defensive end position an important one.
